Ep.06: Finding Life through Death w/ Dr. Andrew T.J. Kaethler

In which I catch up with an old prof

Samuel S. may think podcasting is over, but I’m not so sure.

I had the pleasure of sitting down this summer with Dr. Andrew T.J. Kaethler—an expert in theological anthropology who serves as the Executive Vice President and Benedict XVI Chair of Theology at Catholic Pacific College in Langley, British Columbia. He is also the author of The Eschatological Person: Alexander Schmemann and Joseph Ratzinger in Dialogue, published in 2022, as well as co-editor of Mapping the Una Sancta: Eastern and Western Ecclesiology in the Twenty-First Century, which was published in 2023.

That same year, I had the pleasure of taking a Theology of the Body class with him at CPC and would return a year later for his directed study on Eschatology and the Christian Life. This episode of Zoomed Out covers a lot of the same ground that these courses did. We also discuss monastic life, the difference between tradition and traditionalism, Dr. K’s favourite books, his favourite saints, and what it truly means to be a Christian—not to mention some excellent published articles he has written over the years (links below).
